Today is the oldest you’ve ever been, and the youngest you’ll ever be.
Sometimes it’s hard for people to live in the moment but think about it this way – you are breathing RIGHT NOW, you are reading this RIGHT NOW, you are awake and your heart is beating RIGHT NOW. This moment in time can NEVER be recreated. Everything you want is only obtainable in this very moment.
It is August 29th, 2018 at 10:49 am EST. When you read this it will be a different time, perhaps even a different day. How am I using this time right now? I am sitting in a chair with my computer on a desk, typing – writing to you. How are you using this time? How are you spending your day? Are you dancing/singing in the car, on the way to work? Are you happy when your mom calls? Are you sincerely thankful when you wake up in the morning? Are you patient while waiting in line? Are you aware of your actions/words?
We are always in a hurry to arrive at the next best thing but what about this very moment? All of our current experiences will collect, and over time they will present themselves. They will present themselves based off how we handle our interactions now. Without this very moment in time, we would not be ourselves. Each individual moment creates who we are whether we realize it or not; making coffee, feeding the cat, walking into the office, having conversation with strangers, cutting the grass, talking to our family on the phone etc. Every interaction, every feeling, every moment, every word and every smile is shaping our life.
As humans we find so much to grumble about. We intentionally seek out everything that is ‘wrong’ or ‘not going our way’. Why? I am not sure. Regardless, let’s not do that. I know we always hear the cliche statement, “live in the moment” but have you thought about what that actually means? It truly is freeing. Next time you are driving down the road, say to yourself – “I am driving right now, I am holding the wheel, I have my foot on the pedal, I am steering, I am moving this vehicle down the road, I have control over where this car goes” and actually think about what is happening. Picture yourself among everyone else. THIS is happening right now. Nothing else. You have chosen to sit in your car, drive and arrive someplace. You made that choice, you made it happen. Now, be present. Don’t think about tomorrow. Don’t think about what you’re going to eat later. Look at the trees, at the cars driving around you, watch the clouds move, feel the music you are listening to and feel yourself have control over your life and your emotions. You are free. You are alive and well. You have the power to make a difference. This moment in time will never happen again. Don’t take it for granted.
We have such an abundance of power but it gets taken for granted. We end up floating through life and going through the motions not even realizing what we’re doing.
How often do we completely forget about what we’ve done during the day, or even during 10 minutes? It’s easy to do. Most of the time we are not intentional with our actions. We act impulsively based off feelings and emotions. We float.
We are always so concerned with the future that we forget that this current moment is shaping it! We are creating our future right now! Everything we do in this very moment is shaping how our future looks. This is the most important time.
It’s not what we do tomorrow, it’s what we do today and we should never merely be waiting for something to happen. Take control.
Much Love,
