During this time of quarantine and social distancing, we seemingly have more time on our hands. It is wise to use this time to the best of our ability. With that being said, it is vital to honor our body; noticing and replenishing ourselves with rest, nourishment and peace of mind. We mustn’t find value and self-worth in the mere act of staying busy.
Since being summoned to our homes, I have developed a more steady, daily routine and I must admit, it has been extremely rewarding. The trick is to start with ONE task. Mine was push-ups. I started with 20 a day, then 22, 24 and so on. This made me feel accomplished enough to add in a second task. Once we have completed one thing off our mental to-do list, we enable ourselves to push forward with much more motivation and victory.
The next habit that I have decided to incorporate into my day is drinking lemon water. I have always admired the health benefits of drinking lemon water and I LOVE anything that is sour and pungent. However, I never took the time to purchase lemons at the store, slice them and squeeze them into my water. Until now. Small victories.
I am also reading every single day. For a while my reading had been in spurts or when I “felt” like sitting down and opening a book. If we only did things when we “felt” like it, we probably would not accomplish much. I have surpassed the goal I set for myself at the beginning of the year, so for that, I am pleased. There are other activities I have done for quite some time now, such as different forms of exercise, yoga and prayer but during this time at home, I wanted to integrate something more powerful. My next goal is to run, 5 days out of the week.
The key is to develop strong habits now so that when we go back to our normal routines, these things stick and continue to make a difference in our lives.
If you want to incorporate something beneficial into your day but you’re not sure what to do, I’ve made a list of simple tasks you might enjoy! 🙂
- Drink a green smoothie
- 20 squats
- 50 jumping jacks
- One mile jog
- Drink 80 ounces of water – or more depending on how active you are
- Read one chapter a day
- Speak words of positive affirmation when you wake up
- Pray as soon as you open your eyes in the morning
- Meditate for 10 minutes
I hope these help!
